Posted May 2, Link to comment. Posted May 3, That's a topic for another thread. Posted May 4, Active vs inactive and PM vs BM are all interesting numbers. And all at a snapshot in time.

Posted May 6, What defines a cacher as being "active"? R Posted May 6, I said "now" so you can assume I meant the most recent data, say for the year of But I am happy to receive any data. What time frame does your "20" refer to? Could it be the end of May, ? Thanks GG. How many other geocaching websites are there?

I know Geocaching. Do the add up to another 50, or do you think maybe more? Quite sure that the registered users are only for Geocaching. I haven't a clue about any other sites. I try to keep myself as uncomplicated as possible. Actually, that number is only for the users who have ever visited the forums. The OP is user number 2. The total could be over 3 million by now. As to how many of those are active, I'd bet a whole lot less. Perhaps, but I just checked the members search program, noting members, most listed as 'members', some as 'premium members', few as 'charter members'.

Most of that entire list have never posted in Grounspeak Forums ever! It's my understanding that Groundspeak declines to give exact stats but the first page at geocaching. Geocaching StatisticsThere are , active caches and an estimated million geocachers worldwide. In the last 30 days, there have been 1,, new logs submitted. Check out the recent logs or photos. I believe they say "estimated million because some people cache under a team account and may not be registered.

It also includes the personalities that are listed as "bittsen". That is very interesting. It also mean that there are about 3 to 4 caches per geocacher. That is correct, the , number represents only the number of members who have ever, at least once, looked at these forums. All you need to do is "look" at these forums, and you become a "registered member" of the forums. I didn't notice, the number of accounts created will probably hit 3,, this month.

If you click on anyone's profile from here in these forums, the last number in the URL will be a consecutive decimal number, starting out with Jeremy Irish, founder of Geocaching. Enter random numbers in the URL, and I'll guarantee you at least 50 of them will be zero find, zero hide, one day visitors.

Premium membership is available with a monthly or annual subscription. You can subscribe and pay through your iTunes account. Your subscription will automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during active subscription period. Fixed a bug where the trackable visit and drop map does not reload properly hampering further trackable logs.

While I agree with Doris45, that operating the app under a basic membership has its limitations, the app still does what it says it will do. The features available with a premium membership are because those people pay for the service. The bottom line is it does what it says it will do. That being said, I am giving it 4 stars I would give it 4. Where I am, caches are spread out and I would rather see a wide view rather than needing to scroll over and then load a new area. But given the option of the app on a phone or a GPS that I have to upload and its other limitations, I choose the app on a smart phone any day where I still have cell service.

But, then, the app stopped working because groundspeak required more money from users. This seemed unfair, as half of the community were happily volunteering time and supplies to create the caches in the first place.

To access data that is uploaded by others on caches that are maintained by others! And, that the majority of users only access a few times per year, and usually as a fun and leisurely activity with kids or friends! Sadly, I left geocaching for several years because I was so turned off by this. I just came back as several people have asked me about it and I find that there still have been no major developments to justify this cost.

Just basic design tweaks here and there. This is so disappointing, as geocaching is a fantastic activity that once brought people from all over the world together and relied on the volunteer efforts of placers and maintainers. It still has those aspects but is definitely tainted by greed somewhere in the mix.
